1. What is a rose petal applique?
A rose petal applique is a petal-safe applique that you apply by hand directly onto a live rose petal. It bonds to the petal and stays in place as the rose is displayed or preserved.
2. How do I apply the applique?
Cut out the applique and place it face down on a dry rose petal. Press a wet, saturated cloth or paper towel against the back for about 30 seconds. Once the backing is soaked, gently slide or lift it off. The applique should remain on the petal.
3. What if the applique wrinkles or has bubbles?
While the applique is still wet, you can gently smooth out wrinkles or bubbles with your finger or the damp cloth. Once dry, it cannot be adjusted.
4. What happens as the rose petal dries?
As the petal dries, both the petal and the applique shrink slightly. The design remains visible and intact, even though the petal changes in size and texture.
5. Will the applique damage the rose?
No. The applique is petal-safe and does not harm the rose.
6. How long does the applique last?
It lasts as long as the rose itself. Once applied, it becomes part of the petal and remains visible until the rose naturally fades or is preserved.
7. Can the rose be preserved?
Yes. Roses with appliques can be dried and kept as keepsakes. The applique stays attached through the drying process.
8. Can I order custom appliques?
Not currently. We do offer Petal Pages, which let you print your own custom appliques in shop using a regular inkjet or laser printer.
9. Can I spray the rose after applying the applique?
Plain water is safe. Light misting won’t affect the applique.
We do not recommend finishing sprays such as Green Glow, Crowning Glory, or glitter spray, since they haven’t been tested with appliques and may cause issues.
10. What occasions are they best for?
Appliques can be used for any occasion—birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, memorials, or just because. New designs are added regularly to fit different themes and sentiments.
11. If the sheet of appliqués gets wet, can I dry it and still use them?
No. Appliqués must be stored in a clean, dry area and applied only to clean, dry surfaces. Exposure to moisture will ruin them.
12. Who can create an account with Pen to Petal?
